IMPHAL, Jun 23 : Residents of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai held a sit-in protest at the local market shed on Tuesday, condemning a hand grenade threat at the home of contractor Thingom John.
According to locals, unidentified persons placed a hand grenade at the gate of John’s residence near Pong Lambi on Monday morning. A note attached to the grenade read “Last Warning”.
The protest was jointly organised by the Kongpal Kongkham Leikai Welfare Association Nupi Lup and the Amateur Athletic Association (AAA).
Speaking at the gathering, A Radhamani, member of the Welfare Association Nupi Lup, said such acts of intimidation create fear in the locality and must not be repeated.
She urged that if there are grievances, they should be resolved through dialogue, not threats.
“Had the grenade exploded, innocent lives could have been lost. Who would take responsibility?” she asked, demanding that those behind the act come forward and clarify the motive.
Locals appealed for peace and called on authorities to ensure security in the area.
