Khwairamband vendors protest

IMPHAL, Jun 23: Women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel, suspending their business, staged a protest demonstration today against the arrest of Arambai Tenggol members and village volunteers.
They also demanded release of all the arrested village volunteers and Arambai Tenggol members at the earliest.
Thoudam Shanti who took part in the protest recalled that village volunteers came into being following the miserable failure of the State Government to take up necessary steps and the abject failure of security forces to protect the lives and properties of innocent citizens in the wake of the widespread violence which erupted on May 3, 2023.
She asserted that criminalising village volunteers and AT members who volunteered to protect innocent citizens and their properties is unacceptable.
She demanded the State Government to bring out a Bill which will protect village volunteers from being criminalised.
MLAs and Ministers who were nowhere to be found when Kuki terrorists unleashed widespread killings, violence, arson and displacement have now appeared before the public as the election is drawing near, she remarked.
The protesters also shouted many slogans denouncing the arrest of village volunteers/AT members.
