IMPHAL, Jun 24: The NSCN-IM is not a terrorist or banned organisation under Indian law, the group which has been in a peace talk with Government of India for decades has asserted.
In a statement issued today, the NSCN-IM said it strongly rejects and refutes "allegations contained" in a recent order of the Ministry of Home Affairs (CTCR Division).
The Government's order is not a statement of facts. It is an accusation wrapped in the language of authority. "By casually attributing a grave and politically charged incident to NSCN, the GoI has once again chosen presumption over proof and narrative over evidence," the NSCN-IM said.
The group said it categorically denies any involvement in the alleged act, including the destruction of poppy fields, the exchange of fire, or the deaths mentioned in the order.
"Any claim linking NSCN to these events is unsubstantiated and appears intended to prejudice public opinion before a fair and independent inquiry," it said.
"For clarity and to correct misleading narratives," the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) is not a terrorist or banned organization under Indian law. The Milan MoU is not a symbolic document. It was an instrument to secure peace and dignity for communities scarred by decades of conflict, it said.
The NSCN-IM said it rejects the order in its entirety and condemned the "reckless attempt to manufacture guilt without proof.".
"In a conflict-ridden region, truth must not be sacrificed at the altar of convenience," it said, calling on the Government of India to "act decisively, transparently and in good faith to honor its obligations under the November 18, 2002 Milan MoU."
