IMPHAL, Jun 24: Imphal West district was today launched as a model district toward creating and promoting a digital health ecosystem.
Imphal West was launched as a model district toward creating and promoting a digital health ecosystem at a workshop held at Hotel Classic Grande.
Speaking at the workshop jointly organised by the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Manipur and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), National Health Authority (NHA) CEO Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal highlighted the need for Manipur to join the National healthcare system and growing digital health ecosystem.
Digital integration of healthcare will help in enhancing healthcare facilities, better maintenance of public health records and delivery of healthcare services across the country, he said.
ABDM has already introduced several unique digital identifiers like Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), Health Professional Registry (HPR), Health Facility Registry (HFR) etc with the main objectives of streamlining healthcare delivery and ensuring greater and easier accessibility to healthcare facilities, Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal said.
He said that the preference of youth for fast digital services has been encouraging healthcare providers to adopt more and more digital systems.
Given the fast changing landscape of healthcare, facilities which cannot be digitised will fall out of favour sooner rather than later, he said.
Creation of a robust digital health ecosystem has been progressing rapidly in States like Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu but in Manipur registration of public and private healthcare facilities in the Health Facility Registry remains a big challenge, Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal said.
He said that Imphal West has been chosen as a model or pilot district to overcome these challenges and create a robust digital health ecosystem in the State.
This initiative will bring all healthcare facilities starting from small clinics to big hospitals under a single digital platform, he said.
As compared to big States, the objective of creating a digital health ecosystem can be achieved sooner in Manipur if the people cooperate.
The NHA CEO said that creating a digital health ecosystem can bring about  easier accessibility of healthcare facilities to weaker sections of the society, improve service delivery and ensure healthcare security.
He said that more than 80,000 people undergo treatment everyday with financial assistance from PMJAY across the country.
During the last seven years and a half, the Government has spent Rs 1.9 crore lakh for treatment of over 12 crore patients under the scheme, he said.
Altogether 3.73 lakh families were brought under PMJAY in Manipur in 2018  and so far seven lakh people have been given PMJAY cards.
It is essential to see that  all the 16 lakh people identified as eligible for the scheme are given PMJAY cards, Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal said.
A PMJAY card is not any ordinary document but a pass to get cashless treatment in any empanelled hospital across the country, he said.
He clarified that one family member holding one PMJAY card is not enough or applicable for all family members.
Each and every family member should hold their own PMJAY cards, he added.
Commissioner cum Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Sumant Singh and NHA Director Dr Pankaj Kumar Arora were also present at the event.
