Bishnupur Dist Hospital adds additional cancer care services

Moirang, Jun 24: In a positive development, Bishnupur District Hospital has, in addition to its medical oncology facility, also become a centre for metastatic breast cancer care and day-care chemotherapy services. The hospital is now providing services ranging from cancer diagnosis to palliative care under Medical Oncologist Dr Linthoingambi.
Speaking to the media, Dr Linthoingambi said she had observed many cancer patients travelling long distances to access chemotherapy, causing significant difficulties for them.
To address this issue, she said the hospital has initiated day-care chemotherapy services. She added that most medicines for treatment are being provided free of cost under the National Health Mission. She, however, said that many patients opt for other hospitals over Bishnupur District Hospital due to the non-availability of PMJAY and CMHT facilities, and expressed desire for the Govt to look into the matter. She also spoke about one breast cancer patient who had undergone six rounds of chemotherapy at different places, including Guwahati, and is now admitted to the district hospital. Saying that the hospital has been evaluating and caring for the patient to improve her condition, she appealed to people to avail the services being provided at the hospital. However, she clarified that the hospital has limitations, including the lack of facilities for advanced surgery among others.
