Govt employees stage protest

IMPHAL, Jun 25: Government employees staged protest demonstrations at the Imphal East DC and Bishnupur district DC complexes today.
The protest demonstrations were conducted under the aegis of the Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of the All Manipur Trade Union's Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation (AMGEO).
During the demonstrations, the employees appealed to the Government to address their demands, and cautioned that failure to meet the demands would force them to launch further democratic agitation.
The employees said they are demanding a hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness relief (DR) of State Government employees and pensioners in par with that of Central Government employees.
They are also urging the Government to extend the retirement age to 62 years from 60 years, restore the Old Pension Scheme, fill more than 50,000 vacant posts through the Manipur State Staff Selection Commission and cancel the order that ended holidays on Saturdays.
