3rd Th Ibetombi Devi Memorial Non State Players’ Badminton C’ships Ningombam Henary, Mahaila Malangmei clinch men and women’s singles crowns

IMPHAL, Jun 25 : The 3rd edition of the Thongam Ibetombi Devi Memorial Non State Players’ Badminton Championships organised by the Manipur State Badminton Association concluded today with Ningombam Henary and Mahaila Malangmei emerging as the men and women’s singles champions.
The championship began on June 22 at the association’s courts at DMU campus.
In the men’s singles title clash, Ningombam Henary of IWDBA eased past Atom Powerman of IEDBA by 15-10, 15-11 sets as Mahaila Malangmei of IEDBA registered a comeback 9-15, 15-10, 19-17 win over Flora Golmei of ACDBA to seal the women’s singles title.
Henary reached the men’s singles final yesterday by defeating Jason Naorem of KDBA 15-13, 15-8 after Atom Powerman saw off compatriot Yambem Satyaraj 15-9, 15-19.
In the women’s singles semi-final matches, Mahaila overwhelmed Christina Moirangthem of IWDBA 15-2, 15-8 as Flora outlasted IEDBA’s Lingjelthoibi Nameirakpam 15-5, 15-9.
The pair of Laitonjam Jackson and Maisnam Basantaraj of TDBA meanwhile notched up the men’s doubles title at the championship as they got the better of Alex Ningombam and Saikhomba Thongam of IWDBA 15-13, 9-15, 15-6 in the final match.
The mixed doubles title meanwhile went to IWDBA-IEDBA pair of Jogendra  Khundongbam and Mahaila Malangmei as they secured a 13-15, 15-9, 15-9 win over another IWDBA-IEDBA pair of Ningombam Henary and Mangshatabam Ashalata.
Result of other age group competitions
Oinam Sailesh of BDBA beat compatriot Birsingh Konthoujam 12-15, 15-9, 15-10 for the U-11 Boys’ singles title as Irabanta Chungkham of IEDBA beat BDBA’s Khangembam Nitish 15-11, 15-8 for the U-15 boys’ title and Langdem Obama of IWDBA beat compatriot Huirem Manichandra 15-11, 15-11 for the U-17 Boys’ singles title.
Devchandra Akoijam  of TDBA meanwhile claimed the U-19 boy’s singles crown by defeating JDBA’s N Givson 15-11, 15-12.
The 35+ men’s singles title went to Surjit Nongthombam who beat Sarungbam Jacky 15-12, 15-10 in an all IEDBA final as Thounaojam Nanao of TDBA beat Yambem Volga of KDBA 15-12, 7-15, 15-9 for the 40+ men’s singles title and Ningombam Surendrajit of IEDBA beat KDBA’s Ksh Arunkumar 16-14, 19-17 for the 45+ men’s singles title. Sinthangambi Khangembam of BDBA emerged as the U11 girls’ singles champion as she beat TDBA’s Vinci Namram 15-13, 15-13 in the final as Thokchom Urbasri of JDBA beat IWDBA’s Kamachum Kamei 16-14, 13-15, 15-10 for the U13 girls’ singles title and Ashima of IWDBA beat JDBA’s Sanatombi Thounaojam 15-12, 15-7 for the U15 girls’ singles title.
Doubles and singles competition of other age categories were also completed today.
