He was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today.
An APP of the State submitted that the victim of the case became acquainted with the accused through one of her friends in September 2018 and the accused stated that he is from Kumbi Bazar Awang Leikai.
At that time, the victim was serving as a Nurse in a private hospital at Kolkata and the alleged accused stated that he was staying in Jalandhar.
The victim came back home in 2020 due to the Corona pandemic. She went to Bangalore in 2023 and joined her nursing profession. All this time, she was in contact with the accused.
Saying his father had expired and that the hospital bill was quite huge, Roshan Singha again asked for more money from the victim.
In the year 2024, he told the girl that he would send his parents to talk their marriage and asked her to meet him at Guwahati
The victim resigned from the hospital so she could marry and settle with the accused.
She left Bangalore for Guwahati and met Roshan Singha at Guwahati Airport. They went to a hotel located at Paltan Bazar and stayed there for two days before coming to Imphal.
After returning to Imphal, they went to their respective homes but they kept in touch with each other.
After some days, Roshan Singha said that he would be leaving for Jalandhar.
Again and again, he asked for more money from the victim in the name of his sister and mother’s treatment and the victim complied every time.
In the month of February, 2025, Roshan Singha sent a video clip and threatened the victim that he would share the video clips with her family members.
The accused said that the video was taken during their stay in a hotel at Paltan Bazar, Guwahati.
Even as the victim repeatedly asked Roshan Singha to delete the video, he refused to delete it and demanded more money.
The victim ended up transferring more money to the accused.
Later the victim found out that the real identity of the accused is Roshan Singha of Malugram village, Cachar, Assam, not from Kumbi Bazar.
As the victim could no longer bear the blackmailing and the repeated demand for money, she narrated the entire story to her aunty.
It is said that the total amount extorted by Roshan Singha by blackmailing the victim is Rs 19 lakh.
During the course of Investigation, it was revealed that the accused was staying in and around Guwahati, Assam. However his exact current address and whereabouts could not be ascertained.
Later the accused was traced and arrested from the gate of Imphal Airport yesterday. One mobile phone has been seized from his possession.
The APP then prayed the Court to remand the accused in police custody for four days.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded Roshan Singha in police custody till June 29.
