IMPHAL, Jun 26 : Family Welfare Director Dr N Bino has appealed to the public to ensure every child below the age of five is administered two drops of the polio vaccine during the National Immunization Day/Pulse Polio Immunization Programme 2026, scheduled to be held on June 28.
Addressing a press conference held at the Directorate of Family Welfare Services at BT Road today, he said the National Immunization Day will be observed under the theme "Two drops of life for every child."
Stating that the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme will be conducted across all 16 districts of Manipur on the day, he appealed to the public to ensure that every child below five years of age is administered two drops of the polio vaccine.
He further said the Government has set a target to vaccinate all 2,89,774 children under the age of five in the State.
Dr Bino added that 11,592 vaccinators and 580 supervisors will be deployed to operate 2,898 polio booths across Manipur, with additional booths also being set up in relief camps.
He further stated that Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and health workers will conduct house-to-house visits for two days to administer polio drops to children who miss the vaccination.
Appealing to all parents and guardians not to wait for house-to-house visits, he sought full public cooperation from the public to achieve complete coverage.
He noted that the last polio case in India was reported in Kolkata in 2011 and the country was declared polio-free in 2014.
However, he added that polio cases still persist in neighbouring Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He explained that the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme continues in India as a preventive measure, since the virus can still enter the country from neighbouring regions.
The press briefing was jointly organised by the Directorate of Family Welfare Services, and State Health Society, NHM, Manipur.
