IMPHAL, Jun 25: The Native People’s Committee Manipur (NPCM) has warned the Government not to act against the interest of native Meitei and Naga people.
As a part of its series of public consultation meetings, the NPCM organised a consultative meeting of Meitei and Naga communities on the theme “Unified Response” at Awang Sekmai Koujengleima ground, Imphal West today.
Speaking at the meeting NPCM convenor Ashang Kasar asserted that the Government cannot claim to have restored peace in the State by transporting Kukis in military vehicles through Imphal.
He pointed out that National Highways are still inaccessible to the Meitei community and Nagas cannot move freely on some routes.
Given this restriction on free movement of the Meitei and Naga communities, it will not be right for the Government to claim peace has been restored, Ashang Kasar said.
Giving security escorts to Kukis for movement through Imphal is a direct affront to the people, he said.
The NPCM convenor asserted that the Kukis should not be allowed free movement until the native people’s demand for abrogation of SoO agreement with Kuki narco-terrorists is fulfilled and a comprehensive agreement is reached.
The meeting was participated by other leaders of NPCM and CSO leaders of both the hills and the valley.
The speakers at the meeting underscored the growing need for the indigenous Meitei and Naga communities to come and work together.
They also accused the Government of India of supporting the Kuki narco-terrorists who have been killing and terrorising indigenous people.
The meeting also reaffirmed the resolutions adopted at the first meeting of NPCM held at Makhan, Kangpokpi district on June 2, 2026.
Some of the key resolutions adopted at Makhan were withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur, abrogation of SoO agreement with Kuki narco-terrorists, updation of NRC before census launching census operations, holding meetings between NPCM and Naga and Meitei legislators from time to time and fighting all challenges to the indigenous people collectively.
