PHERZAWL, Jun 25 (DIO): In a continued effort to curb substance abuse and promote a drug-free society, Pherzawl Police conducted a series of community outreach programmes across the district from June 22 to 24 under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan.”
The awareness campaign was organised at key locations including the Collection Centre and Community Health Centre (CHC), Parbung, along with a poster campaign at Parbung Bazar to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of community participation in preventing substance abuse.
During the awareness programmes, Dr Naomi Kipgen, Medical Officer, CHC Parbung, and Zoute Buongpui, President of HWA Parbung, addressed the participants, particularly the youth, and urged them to stay away from drugs and other intoxicating substances.
They highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in combating drug abuse and encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any drug-related activities to the authorities.
Extending the campaign’s reach, a comprehensive awareness programme was also conducted at St Xavier School, Thanlon, with participation from medical staff of the Primary Health Centre, along with teachers and students from St Xavier School and Convention English School.
Resource persons highlighted the physical, psychological, and social impacts of drug addiction, stressing the importance of early awareness and prevention. Students were encouraged to make informed decisions and resist peer pressure.
The interactive programme also allowed participants to engage in discussions and clarify doubts related to substance abuse.
As a mark of commitment, students and teachers collectively took a pledge to refrain from drug use and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
