AKSDO, THAU win as 1st MNCA Women’s U19 T20 Trophy kicks off

IMPHAL, Jun 26 : AKSDO, Khangabok and THAU, Thangmeiband emerged victorious as the 1st MNCA Women’s U19 T20 Trophy organised by the Manipur Cricket Association kicked off at two venues.
In the opening match (Group A) staged at Khudeiband Lampak, AKSDO defended their paltry total of 65 runs for 8 wickets by bundling out FORCE for 57 runs in 18.5 overs to open their league campaign with an 8-run victory.
Barkatun Khanam (3/7 in 4 overs) and Mukida (2/7 in 2 overs) led the FORCE bowling attack as AKSDO opted to bat first but ended up gathering 65 runs.
Only Khundrakpam Bijiya 12 and Laishram Kalpana 10 made double digit scores for AKSDO who also got 22 extras.
FORCE batting department however failed to live upto the expectations and slumped to 57 all out despite Barkatun Khanam holding the fort with an unbeaten 21 off 24 balls.
Lucyrani Khundrakpam led the demolition job for AKSDO and returned with the best figures of 4/14 in 3.5 overs while Rabina Khundrakpam (2/11), Laishram Linthoi (1/7), and Alish Thokchom (1/9) shared four other crucial wickets.
Lucyrani, who shone with the ball, was adjudged player of the match.
Meanwhile in the Group B opener, THAU raised a modest total of 128/6 before dismissing SHADOW, Thangmeiband for 90 runs in 19.5 overs to post a 49-run victory at their home ground.
Leading knocks from Moirangthem Yaiphabi 25, Robeni Usham 17, Konjengbam Nonibala 15, and Surangini Kangabam 14 and 44 extras lifted THAU to 128 after they opted to bat first before Thokchom Purni ran riot to set up SHADOW collapse at 79 despite L Viviene’s significant contribution of 38 runs.
Hijam Malemkhombi, A Thoithoibi, K Nonibala, and K Nisha were also among the wickets for THAU.
For SHADOW, Sagatpam Henthoibi returned with the best bowling figures of 2/14 as Th Victoria, S Kebriya and L Viviene chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Thokchom Purni, who enjoyed a fifer and sealed the huge win for THAU, was eventually adjudged player of the match.
