IMPHAL, Jun 27 : In a show of unity, a resolution has been adopted for Meitei and Naga Meira Paibi groups to work together under a common platform to face the violent campaign launched by Kuki groups against indigenous communities.
The resolution was passed unanimously during a joint meeting of Meitei and Naga Meira Paibi groups of 14 localities held at the residence of Advanced Women's Society Apunba Meira Paibi Awang Sekmai president Usham Amubi at Awang Sekmai, today.
The localities which reached an agreement to face all issues together are Awang Potsangbam Khu-llen, Tendongyang, Awang Sekmai, Kanto Sabal,  Maharabi, Shantipur, Tingri, Khurkhul, Kanto, Leikin-thabi, Makhan Liangmai Village, Kanglatongbi, Mapao and Namdilong Village.
Ima M Mathiubonliu, a resident of Makhan Village, said that the violent campaign carried out by Kuki militants and their armed associates has resulted in widespread displacement and loss of lives. Even the large deployment of security forces has been unable to protect civilians, she said and added that the State Government also appears to exist only in name.
She said that the decision by Meitei and Naga women to work under a common platform is the need of the hour, given the repeated attacks by Kuki groups on the indigenous people.
An activist, S Madhabi stated that the future of the indigenous Meitei and Naga communities remains uncertain due to the ongoing crisis.
She said that Kuki groups have been able to attack and kill indigenous people due to the State Government’s alleged failure to take effective action against them.
Stating that Meitei and Naga Meira Paibi groups have decided to work under a common platform in view of the Government’s alleged inability to ensure civilian safety, she added that an apex Meira Paibi body representing 14 localities will be formed soon.
