IMPHAL, Jun 27 : Rated player H Somokanta is unbeaten and in the pole position on 6.5 points after 7 rounds in the ongoing 8th Khuraijam Ramnarayan Shastri Memorial Open Chess Tournament at Wangkhei High School Campus.
Somokanta will play close contender Kh Sanjoy, who has amassed 6 points so far, in the next round. Other title contenders closely following Somokanta on 6 points apiece include Atembi Laishram and Naoremcha Yoihenba.
Rajkumar Bhogen Singh, Elangbam Shashikanta, Kongjengbam Poireikhomba, Ph Rajen and Ningombam Herojit, who have secured 5.5 points after 7 rounds and still have chances to make it to the podium finish.
