CM assures State forces at Nongshum

IMPHAL, Jun 28: Chief Minister Y Khemchand has reportedly assured that State forces will be stationed at Nongshum in Imphal East, where a designated camp of the Pambei-led UNLF is set up.
Today, representatives of the Iramdam Kanba Lup (IKAL) along with locals of Nongshum and adjoining areas met Khemchand at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, United Committee Pukhao Makeng Dolaithabi president Th Sanjoy said they had been protesting against the move to relocate the Pambei-led UNLF camp to Nongshum.
He said they urged the Chief Minister not to proceed with the relocation during the meeting.
According to him, the Chief Minister stated that talks between the Pambei-led UNLF and the Government are being held at the Central level and that the State Government cannot interfere in the matter.
However, the Chief Minister assured that the proposed site would be examined for the deployment of State forces, he added.
He said they appealed to Khemchand to convey their concerns to the Centre to prevent the relocation of the camp. Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar was also present at the meeting.
