IMPHAL, Jun 27: The Government and its agencies failing to make any arrest even after the Kuki-Zo Council has admitted to "Kuki-Zo" killing six Naga civilian hostages on camera is unfortunate and appalling, said the Joint Tribes Council (JTC) today.
"The KZC leader's admission and apology regarding the killing of the six Nagas have revealed their involvement." Failing to make any arrest even after this is very unfortunate, said JTC Manipur's general secretary, Dr Aku Newmai, speaking to reporters at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Notably, Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) chairman Henlianthang Thanglet, in a press meet on June 25, had admitted that the killing of the six Naga civilians by Kuki-Zo was driven by "emotion."
The six Naga men were among 18 persons abducted and taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village on May 13. While all the other hostages were released days later, the six men were recovered dead on June 10.
The six men were murdered brutally and without mercy. Arresting and interrogating the members of the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) will yield significant results in the investigation, Dr Aku said.
While the JTC Manipur and the United Naga Council (UNC) had raised several demands regarding the case, the Government has so far not taken up any steps to address them, Aku said.
Until the persons involved in the heinous crime are arrested and the demands are yet, the mortal remains of the six Naga victims will not be claimed, Aku said.
The remains of the six victims are at JNIMS.
Further failure to make any arrest in the case may cause tension to flare up. The Government shouldn't test the patience of the civil bodies and the public, Aku added.
Dr Aku also called on the indigenous communities to unite and face the threats being posed by illegal immigrants.
Only unity among the indigenous communities can defeat the threat and bring peace, Aku added.
