UKHRUL, Jun 27: The Tangkhul Naga Long Working Committee (TNL WC) has slammed and questioned the Government's effort to rein in Kuki terror activities.
The Tangkhul body, after a minute deliberation on the ongoing military tactical intervention in the conflict zones of Manipur, has expressed exasperation over the motive of the Government in handling the prevailing situation surrounding the violent Naga-Kuki conflict.
The initial move to rope in the CoBRA Unit of CRPF following the abduction and subsequent murder of six Liangmai Nagas was considered a welcome move towards justice delivery, and restoration of law and order in the strife-torn State.
However, the action of the security forces conducted at the behest of the Government which unfolded on the actual ground suggests otherwise and betrays the hope of the citizens, the TNL said in a statement.
On June 21, 2026, a combined team of CRPF CoBRA Unit and Assam Rifles launched a combing operation at Leilon Vaiphei-- a Kuki village where 18 Naga civilians were taken as hostage on May 13, 2026 and subsequently, six men were brutally murdered and their mutilated bodies recovered on June 10, 2026.
The security operation was reportedly met with fierce armed resistance from the armed Kuki militants belonging to the Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P), United Kuki National Army (UKNA) and Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA).
As per reliable reports, there was a considerable presence of about 100 armed Kuki militants at the time of incident at Leilon Vaiphei village, the TNL said.
The Tangkhul body added that it was an opportune moment to nab the culprits involved in the abduction and murder of the innocent Naga civilians- which has been substantiated with open admittance by the Kuki-Zo Council chairman Henlienthang Thanglet.
The combing operation conducted by the CRPF Cobra Unit and the Assam Rifles, however, appeared to be a staged exercise in favour of the Kuki narco-terrorist groups, charged TNL.
Eventually, the military exercise was withdrawn and the Kuki armed militants were given safe passage and relocated to KNF-P designated Ebenezer Camp, it said.
The emerging situation raises serious and pertinent questions regarding the intention of the Government and its effort to rein in Kuki terror activities, the TNL remarked.
The State and Central Governments appear to be in a position bereft of concrete decision, transparency and accountability in the vexed matter, it said.
It is obligatory on the part of the Governments to answer to the people regarding their commitment and sincerity towards resolving the grave issue affecting the hills of Manipur, the TNL added.
