Poetry recitation competition held

THOUBAL, Jun 28: As part of the yearlong silver jubilee celebration of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch, Wangjing, a district-level poetry recitation competition for students of Thoubal district was held on Saturday at N Chaobi Memorial School, Heirok.
The programme was attended by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal branch vice-president Thokchom Promila as the functional president, along with Heirok Part-II GP Administrative Committee chairperson Moirangthem Manglem, Heirok Part-III GP Administrative Committee chairperson Ningthoujam Tangba, Heirok Part-II GP Ward No. 8 member Thokchom Konthou Lemba and Ward No. 9 member Thokchom Roben as guests of honour.
Before the competition, members of the Parishad planted various tree saplings within the school campus as part of an environmental awareness initiative. Environmentalist Maibam Ningol Memma also attended the programme.
A total of 23 students participated in the competition, which was conducted in two categories.
In Category A, Sh Mendi Sharma of Lamjing Maheikol, Wangjing secured the first position, while L Machathoi and N Malemthoiba of N Chaobi Memorial School, Heirok secured the second and third positions respectively.
In Category B, Heikhrujam Paikhomba, Kh Lanthoi Devi and N Mercyta Devi, all from N Chaobi Memorial School, Heirok, bagged the first, second and third positions respectively.
The Parishad informed that several programmes including observance of Manipuri Language Day, Irabot Day, cleanliness drives, book release, Youth Day, Language Day, Writers’ Day, Young Writers’ Day and Dr BR Ambedkar birth anniversary celebration will be organised during the yearlong silver jubilee celebration.
