APP reports
According to the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP), the accused, during preliminary examination, admitted to the charges levelled against her.
She stated that her husband worked as a mason, while she had been employed at a hotel for the past three months, earning a daily wage of Rs 200 to Rs 300.
The couple frequently quarrelled over their financial difficulties.
The accused further stated that on May 30, at around 5 pm, she was at work when her husband and two of his co-workers came to the hotel and consumed local liquor. They left the hotel at around 6 pm. At about 7 pm, her husband called her and asked her to return home, saying there were only a few customers at the hotel and that their son had not eaten.
She replied that two customers were still at the hotel and that she would return after they left.
At around 7.10 pm, the couple reportedly had a heated argument on the roadside near the hotel.
Her husband then entered the hotel kitchen, where the argument continued.
During the altercation, her husband allegedly grabbed her hand and slapped her in the presence of the hotel owner.
As the argument escalated, the accused picked up a knife and threatened to stab herself.
She claimed that her husband came close to her and attempted to snatch the knife, during which she stabbed him.
She then left the scene immediately.
The APP submitted that judicial custody was necessary for proper investigation of the case and for establishing prima facie evidence against the accused.
After hearing the submissions of the prosecution and examining the case records, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till June 17.
It may be mentioned that the deceased, Pukhram Premkumar, was rushed to the Community Health Centre following the incident but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
