Sharda sworn in as Rajya Sabha Member

IMPHAL, Jun 29: Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi was today sworn in as a Member of the Rajya Sabha.
Notably, A Sharda who is currently holding the post of president BJP Manipur Pradesh was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.
Although the election to the State’s lone Rajya Sabha  was scheduled on June 18,  no candidate filed nomination papers except Sharda.
Altogether eight new Members including A Sharda were sworn in by Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan in the Parliament’s Rajya Sabha, New Delhi today.
The MPs who were sworn in today included AICC leader Mallikarjun Kharge and BJP leader Tarun Chugh.
Dressed in traditional Meitei attire, A Sharda took the oath of office and secrecy in Manipuri (Meitei- lon).
She is the first woman Rajya Sabha Member from Manipur.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Nara-yan, Rajya Sabha House leader and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union MoS for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Rajya Members Jairam Ramesh and Praful Patel attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has congratulated A Sharda on being sworn in as a Member of Rajya Sabha.
In a post shared on social media, Khemchand said, “I’m confident Rajya Sabha Member Sharda Devi  will work with dedication toward realizing the goal of a Vikshit Bharat by 2047.”
