IMPHAL, Jun 29 : The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) has asserted that a clean politics is the only solution to the predicament facing Manipur today.
As a part of its sustained mass awareness campaign on “Politics: Vote for National Regeneration”, public meetings were held at two different locations on Sunday.
Speaking at one of the public meetings held at Khurai Kongpal Ningthou-bung Leikai, MAYOL president Koijam Suresh said that a clean politics is the only remedy of the many ills and issues besieging Manipur.
Since many years back, the State’s economy, social ethics and political standard have been degrading rapidly, he said.
“If we do not wake up today and start paying due attention to politics, the predicament of Manipur will only get worse”, he said.
“Today, the social ethics  and discipline have degenerated to the nadir, our social capital has eroded, a large number of youth including girls have fallen prey to drugs, Manipur has found its place in the international map for poppy cultivation and the State is fast becoming a hotspot of narco-terrorism. The only solution to all these issues is clean politics”, the MAYOL president asserted.
He also appealed to all the people to support MAYOL’s campaign for a clean election based on merit rather than on muscle and money power.
Impact TV Editor-in-Chief Yumnam Rupachan- dra asserted that the people should have the courage to raise questions to their representatives as well as candidates.
People should have the courage to question why several crores are spent in elections, he said.
Rupachandra said that competent candidates committed to the people’s cause can be identified only when people start raising questions.
A similar public meeting was held at Tourangbam Leikai, Heirok Part III where public speaker Dr Dhanabir Laishram, VLF president Moirangthem Ibemcha and MAYOL president Koijam Suresh spoke in detail on the urgent need for reforming the State’s electoral practices.
They pointed out that unethical and corrupt electoral practices seen in Manipur over the last many decades are the main cause of the socio-economic and political degeneration of Manipur.
They appealed to the public to understand the importance of politics and prevent muscle power and money power from deciding election results.
