IMPHAL, Jun 29 : The Meitei Pangal Council Manipur (MPCM) has urged the relevant authorities to arrest and penalise a 65 year old man, while accusing the person of sexually assaulting a minor girl.
Addressing the media at Hatta today, MPCM president Haji Arafat Ali said that the accused is a resident of a particular locality in Imphal West and runs a shop at his residence.
He claimed that the minor girl was molested when she came to his shop to buy Mimi.
He further claimed that the elderly man offered to give Rs 5000 to the minor to sleep with him, which the girl refused outright.
Exploiting the absence of others, the man dragged the minor inside his shop and locked the door, he claimed and further alleged that the girl’s mouth was covered to prevent her from shouting.
He also claimed that the man touched the private parts of the minor girl.
As the girl did not return, Arafat claimed that her friends, who were waiting for her, went in search of her and heard the minor shouting from inside the shop.
The minor girl was rescued by her friends and the local people, he said.
Claiming that the accused went into hiding following the incident, he added that irate locals have vandalised parts of his shop and residence.
He further claimed that the accused had filed counter-allegations at Mayang Imphal Police Station, following which seventeen persons were summoned by the police.
Saying that the father of the minor had also lodged a complaint at the Imphal West Women Police Station under the POCSO Act on June 20, and a case has been registered in connection with the incident, he alleged that no action, however, has been taken by the police so far despite the registration of the case.
He urged the authorities concerned to arrest the accused without delay.
He also alleged that the accused had been making arrogant remarks, claiming that no one could arrest him even if the Chief Minister, Minister, DGP or SP came to apprehend him.
The press briefing was also attended by the victim and her family members.
