IMPHAL, jun 4 : The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur has achieved a significant milestone with accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
Addressing a press briefing at NIT Manipur's Langol campus today, Director Prof DVLN Somayajulu announced that the Institute's Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering have been accredited by the NBA.
India has 34 NITs, he said and added that the NIT in Manipur and nine other places were established as an Institute of National Importance in 2010 under the Ministry of Education.
He said the accreditation was granted after a seven-member NBA evaluation team assessed various parameters, including curriculum design, infrastructure, the teaching-learning process, student performance, industry interaction, outcome-based education, and continuous improvement practices, among others.
He further stated that the accreditation would enhance the quality of technical education, improve students' employability and placement prospects, and strengthen the visibility and recognition of NIT Manipur.
Stating that the achievement is the result of the collective efforts of faculty members, officers, staff, students, the Board of Governors, and the Ministry of Education, Somayajulu said that the institute is consistently working to ensure that the Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering programmes of the institute also receive NBA accreditation.
He further informed that the 2026-27 academic session for undergraduate and postgraduate courses at NIT Manipur will commence in August.
