IMPHAL, Jun 4 : Members of the All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) today marched to the Imphal West DC office and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor, urging immediate action to resolve the ongoing crisis in the State.
In the memorandum, the AMNM urged the Governor to restore peace in Manipur, resolve the current crisis, ensure the release of the Naga hostages, arrest those responsible for the Tronglaobi massacre, rehabilitate internally displaced persons (IDPs), hold local body elections, deploy Highway Protection Force, and facilitate free movement on National Highways, among others.
Speaking to the media, AMNM volunteers said that the situation in Manipur has been deteriorating with each passing day.
They alleged that even drivers are no longer safe, citing the recent killing of a truck driver from West Bengal by Kuki militants near TM Kasom. They further stated that justice has yet to be delivered in the Tronglaobi massacre, in which a newborn baby and a five-year-old boy were killed.
The protesters asserted that Governance has completely failed in Manipur, highlighting several issues such as the non-conduct of local body elections, failure to ensure free movement along National Highways, and the lack of justice for those killed during the ongoing crisis.
They also pointed to the inability of many farmers to access and cultivate their agricultural fields and failure of the Government to resettle internally displaced persons who have been languishing in relief camps for more than three years among other concerns. Manipur has remained in a state of unrest since May 3, 2023, they said and urged the Government to take immediate and effective measures to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy in the State.
