Hopeful of positive development in coming days : Govindas

IMPHAL, Jun 5: Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam has stated that he is hopeful of some positive developments in the next two-three days regarding the six Naga men held hostage by Kukis and the 14 Kuki individuals held captive by Nagas.
On the killing of three persons at Loibol Khullen village, the Home Minister said that he has got information of the incident but no detailed report has been received.  
Replying to queries raised by media persons by the sideline of a World Environment Day observation at City Convention Centre, Konung Mamang here today, Govindas said that hectic negotiations are going on.
He said that the Government has been negotiating with both the Kukis and the Nagas to get the hostages released.
On being asked about the arrest of some militants who were said to be involved in the abduction of the six Nagas, the Home Minister expressed hope that some positive developments will be visible in the coming days.
He said that the State Government under Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand will make every effort to secure the release of the hostages.
On being asked about the killing of three persons and burning of some houses at Loibol village early this morning, Govindas Kon-thoujam said, “I have got news of the incident but I have not received any detailed report”.
Nonetheless, additional security forces have been sent and search operations have been going on, he said.
The Home Minister said that steps have been initiated to carry out extensive search operations in both the valley and hill districts in order to curb violence and unlawful activities.
Although no specific date has been fixed, search operations will begin soon, he said.
On being enquired about the reports that NIA has not yet received any intimation from the State Government contrary to the State Government’s claim that the case of the abduction six Nagas has been handed over to the investigating agency, the Home Minister maintained that he himself signed on an official document to hand over the case to the NIA.
If the NIA is saying that they have not received any intimation, there might be some communication gaps, he added.
Manipur has been grappling with a crisis since May 3, 2023.
