UKL/SPT, Jun 4 : The All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) today took out a vehicular rally from Ukhrul to Makhan via Imphal after passing through several Kuki villages along NH-202.
ANSAM took out the rally with the twin purpose of exerting pressure on the Government to ascertain the whereabouts of the six Naga hostages abducted from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village by KNF(P) on May 13 along with Leilon Vaiphei villagers, and assert that any disturbance to free movement on NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) will not be tolerated.
The ANSAM rally went on the same highway through Kuki villages without any security escort.
Earlier, Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Ukhrul and Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul expressed strong objection to  the ANSAM’s rally
After flagging off the rally, ANSAM president TH Angtesang Maring stated that the State Government and the Central Government would be held responsible if any untoward incident happened during the march to Makhan.
He asserted that NH-202, the only lifeline of Ukhrul and Kamjong must be safe and secure for all to move freely.
ANSAM’s protest rally was joined by a team of NSF from Nagaland and  the two teams met at Yaingangpokpi.
The two teams met at Yaingangpokpi at around 4 pm and proceeded together to Makhan.
Following the expiry of the ultimatum issued by the ANSAM to the Government of Manipur and the authorities concerned to establish the whereabouts of the six hostages, an emergency assembly of the student body was held on June 3, 2026 at Ukhrul district headquarters.
The emergency assembly  hosted by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) deliberated on the prevailing situation.
The assembly observed that despite the lapse of the deadline, no concrete information regarding the safety, whereabouts, or status of the six hostages has been made available to their families or the Naga people till date.
The prolonged silence and lack of visible progress have further intensified the anxiety and suffering of the victims’ families and the Naga people at large, ANSAM stated.
The house resolved to resort to different forms of intensified agitations starting with a “March towards Imphal” passing through Ukhrul-Imphal (NH 202) on June 4, 2026 with all the units of the association to meet the families of the six Naga hostages at Makhan village.
While taking cognizance of the fact that the prevailing exigencies require inclusiveness among the Naga community, the house stated that the decision of the presidential council for boycotting the State Government needs wider consultation for effective implementation of the same.
The emergency assembly resolved to endorse the ANSAM executive council and its units to conduct intensive consultations with all stakeholders.
Further, the house resolved to form an action committee on the prevailing situation to be constituted by the executive council by nominating former leaders of the association as the committee members.
ANSAM has stated that it remains committed to pursuing all democratic and peaceful means until justice is delivered to the affected communities and the six hostages are reunited with their families.
“The suffering endured by the families of the hostages cannot be ignored, and every possible effort must be made to bring them home safely,” ANSAM added.
