IMPHAL, Jun 6 : Team Nishikant led by MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam today felicitated residents of Keishamthong Assembly Constituency who have made remarkable achievements in different fields.
Achievers in the fields of sports, art and culture were felicitated at a function held at the residence of the MLA this afternoon.
Moreover, two individuals diagnosed with cancer were given financial assistance of Rs one lakh each under the aegis of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand.
Soyam Chinglemba who won gold, silver and bronze medals in the 9th Asian Taekwondo Poomsac Championship 2026 held at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Dingku Singh Laishram who won silver, Nongdren Khaba who won silver in the same championship and Shannon Loitongbam who won gold in Yonex Sunrise 4th Mini National Badminton Championship-2025 (U-11) were felicitated at the function.
Bishesh Huirem who won Best Supporting Actress title for his role in the Shumang Leela “Leepun”, Pretty Laishram who won Best Actress award at Lews Fame International Film Festival, Rang Manch Cine Award and Nelson Mandela Inspire Award 2025 for her role in the film ‘The Nightmare of Bembi” were also honoured.
The Nightmare of Bembi was adjudged the best psychological drama (war crime) in the Indian Panorama International Film Festival.
Heirangkhongjam Bidyalakshmi who won Manipur State Kala Akademi Award 2023-24 was felicitated at the event.
Renowned Nat-Sankirtan artiste Leimapokpam Lakpati, senior citizens Anoubam Meghachandra and Konthoujam Ranjit attended the function as presidium members.
Speaking at the function, MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam said that he was not acquainted with even 30 persons from Keishamthong AC when he first decided to fight elections.
“Luckily I won the election because of the support given by the people and Team Nishikant”, he said. “It is said that my relatives would be the most numerous in Keishamthong AC but I’m ignorant of it.
“With love and support from a large number of people, we joined politics with a dream. As I said earlier, not a single rupee will be misappropriated or taken as bribe”, he vowed.
Saying that he cannot remember any instance where he took money for helping people, he appealed to all concerned to point out any such particular instance.
“I never took money from any one, whether they are from Keishamthong AC or other places. I joined politics to help others”, Nishikant said.
He said that Keishamthong AC is home to many talented people.
Keishamthong AC used to get flooded as soon as it rained he said and added that nonetheless several road construction and other development programmes have been taken up and these development programmes will be informed to the public, he said.
“I did not join politics to earn money. What is most satisfying to me is the reflection of relief seen in men and women in need when I help them with whatever I could”, he said.
6000 women between 18 and 70 years of each Assembly segment will be given Rs 10,000 and this assistance can create a source of income for women, he said.
Nishikant appealed to all women to enrol for the same scheme, leaving aside politics.
The financial assistance will be hiked to Rs 20,000 in the second round and Rs 30,000. But those who do not enrol for the first round will not be eligible for the second round and the third round, the MLA said.
Nishikant appealed to all eligible women not to miss this opportunity and assistance.
He said that he has been working continuously for the welfare of people even though two years were wasted due to the violent crisis which was followed by one year of President’s Rule. He added that whatever funds available will be put into use for people’s welfare and development.
