IMPHAL, Jun 6: Two civil bodies, Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Apunba Nupi Lup, have announced restrictions for visitors and hikers visiting Langol hill.
No visitors will be allowed to enter and hike Langol hill before 5 am and late in the evening from tomorrow (June 7) onward, the two civil bodies said.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club Imphal, Uripok Apunba Lup general secretary Samom Dhurba said the restrictions have been brought to safeguard and protect the Longol, Punshilok natural ecosystem.
Dhurba said people in pairs, and in large groups have been increasingly spotted picnicking, littering and abusing substances in the hill. The hourly restrictions are to help cut traffic, encourage healthy habits, and minimise the risk of disturbing and damaging the flora and fauna, and the overall ecosystem, Dhurba said.
