Explosions rock

IMPHAL/THOUBAL, Jun 6: In separate incidents, two bombs exploded hours apart at Tentha Khunou under Khongjom police station and Kiyamgei last night, causing panic among locals.
While the first bomb exploded at the residence of a Panchayat leader at Tentha Khunou at 10.30 pm yesterday, the second bomb went off at the residential compound of former Minister Late Md Alauddin at Kiyamgei at around 1.15 am today.
In the first incident, one hand-grenade was thrown by unidentified persons at the residence of Tentha Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee Chair- person Moirangthem Shu-bol.
The hand-grenade exploded in an open area inside the residence.
In the second incident, one hand-grenade thrown by unidentified persons exploded inside the residential compound of Md Nasiruddin, son of Late Md Alauddin, at Kiyamgei under Irilbung police station.
Md Nasiruddin contested in the 2022 Assembly elections on a NPP ticket. A two-wheeler vehicle parked in the courtyard and a portion of the wall of the house were partly damaged in the explosion.
Irilbung police have registered a case for investigation.
Meanwhile, condemning the bomb attack at the panchayat leader's residence, locals of Tentha Khunou held a sit-in protest demonstration today.
Denouncing the bomb attack in the strongest terms, the local womenfolk said the individuals or groups concerned who carried out the attack should clarify and state their reason publicly.
The explosion could have hurt the family members of the Panchayat leader and their neighbours including children, they said. If there is any issue with the Panchayat leader, the parties concerned should approach him and talk to him, and not resort to violence, said the womenfolk. They urged all concerned individuals and groups not to repeat the incident in the future.
