IMPHAL, Jun 7: Even as Myanmar-based militants intruded into Manipur and carried out a daring attack and burnt many houses at border villages in Kamjong district, the Government is yet to deploy any additional security forces in the vulnerable villages, according to the People’s United Youth Alliance (PUYA).
A combined force of Myanmar-based KNA-B and PDF militants attacked the border villages of Z Choro, Wanglee and Namlee using sophisticated firearms and explosives on May 7, 2026 and they also burnt down several houses.
Accompanied by media persons, a team of PUYA visited the border villages from June 5 to 6.
Speaking to the media persons, PUYA president Longjam Abothe asked if the Government has abandoned the border villagers to the mercy of foreign militants.
Even after the fierce attack carried out by foreign militants, no additional security forces have been deployed in the area till date, and it implies that the State Government is least bothered to protect the territorial boundary of Manipur or ensure the security of the border villages, Abothe said.
Whereas local MLA Leishiyo Keishing unequivocally stated that the attack was a foreign aggression and the Government should not remain silent, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam downplayed the fierce attack claiming that ‘foreign aggression’ was not mentioned in the report received by the Government.
Recalling that the attack took place in the early hours of May 7 after Assam Rifles troops visited the border villages the previous night, the PUYA president asserted that the villagers have lost all faith in the Assam Rifles.
By not paying any heed to the villagers’ plea to station one IRB battalion in the border area, the State Government has demonstrated that it is least bothered about protecting the State’s boundary, he said.
Abothe decried that the Government has gone completely silent on the issue after distributing a few bags of rice and potato to the villagers.
Denouncing that no additional security force has been deployed in the border area even after one month of the foreign aggression, he asked whether the Government has given away the border areas to foreign militants.
Only two police personnel from Kamjong police station are stationed at Choro Aloyo village where a large number of refugees from Myanmar are also taking refuge but the two police personnel are not armed.
The way the State Government has been handling the issue is a matter of grave concern for all the people of Manipur, he said.
Abothe urged the Government to address the security concerns and other requirements of the border villages which are facing limited or no mobile and electricity connection.
State security forces concentrated within Imphal should be deployed in the border villages and assigned the task of guarding the State’s boundary, he said.
The PUYA president called upon the State Government to shed its notion or outlook that Manipur is limited to the valley districts.
During their visit, the PUYA team extended medical aid to the villagers and lauded their contribution in protecting the boundary of Manipur.
