IMPHAL, Jun 7: In what could be one of the biggest drug seizure cases, security forces arrested several individuals and seized over 28 kilograms of opium and over 1 kilogram of brown sugar worth crores in separate operations today.
During a search at Singhat police check post, two Churachandpur residents were arrested and approximately 1.4 kilograms of brown sugar was seized from their possession.
The two arrested have been identified as K Pauchinsuan (57) of CYA Road, Gouchinkhup Veng and Tuahmawi (42) of Mata Mualtam village.
K Pauchinsuan is at present staying at Mata Mualtam village.
The two were travelling in a Bolero when they were intercepted and arrested.
The police found 107 soap cases containing approximately 1.4 kilograms of brown sugar.
The seizures today came just days after police arrested two persons with 1.423 kilograms of brown sugar in Vajing village under Churachandpur district on June 5.
The two arrested were identified as Paominthang Haokip (44) of Haika village, Chandel district, and Isla Uddin (37) of Kwakta Ward No 8, Bishnupur district.
In a separate incident, a total 28.190 kilograms of opium was seized in Senapati with security forces arresting two Kangpokpi residents.
Man Bahadur Bhattarai (24) and Ajay Baniya (22) were travelling in a Bolero pick-up vehicle when they were intercepted at a security post at T Khullen, under Senapati district.
Man Bahadur Bhattarai (24) hails from Bajaghara village, Irang Part-II, Kangpokpi and Ajay Baniya (22) hails from Kharpani village, Irang Part-II, Kangpokpi, said police. From their possession, security forces seized 28.190 kilograms of opium, Rs 5,000 and the vehicle and other incriminating items.
