IMPHAL, Jun 7: Transgender social activist Malem Thongam is planning a solo bicycle ride from Kashmir to Manipur for peace in January next year.
The proposed solo ride, from January 2, will be organised under the "Campaign to move freely in Manipur".
A meeting related to the proposed solo ride was held at Maibakhul community hall today.
Former rebel leader RK Meghen, Maibakhul Development Committee president Irom Kumar, former Acting Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission Yambem Laba, AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi, MMTU secretary (administration) Mutum Churamani, MAPI Council president KC Romio, Thawai Mirel convenor Paonam Saahanbi among others attended the meeting.
The meeting attended by representatives of various civil society organisations and Meira Paibi Lups resolved to extend support to malem's proposed ride.
Speaking at the meeting, RK Meghen said the State is facing a serious infiltration issue.
The current conflict is a result of an uncontrolled influx of illegal immigrants from Myanmar, he said.
Amid the prolonged conflict, Malem planning a solo ride for peace from Kashmir to Manipur is encouraging, he said.
The proposed ride will help spread awareness about the Manipur conflict to people in the other States and give a boost to the campaign for peace, Meghen said, appealing to all sections of the society and civil bodies to extend their support to Malem's proposed ride.
Malem Thongam has earlier rode solo from Delhi to Manipur. She began the solo bicycle ride from Delhi's Qutub Minar on October 2, 2025 and reached Imphal's Kangla on December 19, 2025.
Later, her repeated attempts to ride to Churachandpur for peace were thwarted by the Government citing security reasons.
