It is an establishment characterized by a recurring cycle where-in major policy shifts are heralded with immense fanfare, executed with preca- rious haste, and subsequently met with bureau- cratic stone-walling when operational realities begin to fracture. The profound crisis surrounding the Central Board of Secondary Education and its implementation of On-Screen Marking for the 2026 Class 12 board examinations stands as a definitive, highly damaging manifestation of this systemic pathology. Concep- tualized as a definitive leap toward administrative modernity, digital trans- parency, and logistical efficiency, the initiative was designed to fundamentally alter how high-stakes academic performance is assessed in the country. The official narrative championed an infallible digital architecture where physical answer scripts would be scanned at localized hubs, uploaded to an ostensibly secure portal, and evaluated digitally by educators from the jurisdiction of their respective schools. This digital workflow promised to eliminate the perennial hazards of physical script transit, eradicate human tallying errors, and drastically compress the traditional lag between examination conclusions and result decla- rations. The theoretical framework was robust, but the structural execution proved catastrophic, ultimately transforming a flag- ship modernization drive into an unprecedented institutional failure.
The immediate fallout of this technological transition manifested with stark clarity on May 13, 2026, the day the Class 12 board results were officially de- clared. Instead of the promised precision, the national student consciousness was met with widespread panic as anomalies emerged across diverse regions and academic streams.
