IMPHAL, Jun 30 : YPHUC, Lalambung got the better of Sagolband Union (SU) by 42 runs as TCMDC, Thongju and MPA, Thounaojam shared a point apiece due to rain in today’s Group A and B league matches of the ongoing 1st MNCA Women’s U19 T20 Trophy.
Opting to bat first at THAU ground, YPHUC posted a competitive total of 143 runs before being dismissed in 19.3 overs. They however successfully defended their total by bowling out SU for 101 runs in 17 overs with the bowlers putting the SU bowlers in the shade.
Although Wangthoibi Nongthombam anchored with an unbeaten 38 off 40 balls and Japani Irom made 30 off 37 balls for YPHUC, Ayekpam Bhumika of SU stole the show running through the top and the middle order batters on the way to her 4/20.
Tamphasana also picked two wickets for SU (2/19) in her spell of 4 overs while Lanchenbi leaked as many as 34 runs in 2 overs.
In reply, SU did not have the best of the start and slumped to 13/3 within 3.5 overs. Lanchenbi (30 off 27 balls) and Henthoi (25 off 10 balls; 3 fours) combined for a 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket but their departure marked the gradual collapse of the chase.
Usham Saliza returned with the best figures of 3/30 in 4 overs for YPHUC as Lembisana Konjengbam (2/18 in 3 overs) and Ningthoujam Linthoinganbi (2/0 in 1 over) picked two wickets apiece.
U Saliza, who led YPHUC to first win in two matches, was eventually named player of the match.
