IMPHAL, Jul 1 : The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has alleged that the country's education policy has completely failed under the BJP-led Government.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan today, former Minister Dr Ratankumar continued that the alleged lapses in the education system have severely affected the student community.
He also said that the number of Government schools and colleges has declined and the cost of education has become increasingly expensive.
Pointing to the mushrooming of coaching centres for competitive examinations such as UPSC, NEET-UG and JEE, he alleged that students from economically weaker families are being placed at a disadvantage, as many cannot afford the high cost of coaching.
Dr Ratankumar also referred to the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, stating that several students had died by suicide in its aftermath.
He also raised the issue of unemployment, alleging that recruitment to vacant posts in various Government departments has been delayed.
Saying that several shortcomings have emerged in the education system due to the Government's neglect, the Congress leader alleged that the increasing privatisation of Government educational institutions has made quality education less accessible, particularly for students from economically weaker sections of society.
Despite the increase in private schools and colleges, the Government has been unable to effectively regulate them, he charged.
He further claimed that corruption has increased significantly under the BJP-led Government and there is no transparency in governance.
The Congress leader also said that the crisis that began in Manipur on May 3, 2023, has severely disrupted the academic atmosphere.
The press briefing was held as part of "Chhatron Ki Goonj," a Nationwide campaign launched by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister over the NEET-UG examination paper leak.
