IMPHAL, Jul 10 : A one-day consultative programme on the “Draft Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Policy-2026” was held today at Sangai Hall, Imphal Hotel.
Organised by the Manipur State Commission for Women with sponsorship from the National Commission for Women, the event was attended by Ng Uttam, Secretary, TA and Hills, Manipur, MSCW Chairperson Th Tiningpham Monsang, Member Secretary W Phajatombi, and representatives from various departments, NGOs and CSOs.
Addressing the gathering, Th Tiningpham Monsang stressed the need for a dedicated budgetary allocation for gender equality and women empowerment, stating that financial commitment is crucial to translate policy goals into tangible outcomes for women across the State.
She informed that the draft policy, submitted to the State Government in 2023, envisions an inclusive society and serves as a roadmap and vision document to protect women during crises.
The policy also addresses the role of Meira Paibis, Ema Keithel and women’s contributions across sectors.
Monsang noted that the 2023 conflict displaced over 50,000 people and severely impacted women, underlining the urgency of the policy to ensure women’s role in nation-building.
