Drugs worth Rs 5 Cr seized

IMPHAL, Jul 11: Bishnupur Commandos arrested one person and seized over 5 kilograms of brown sugar worth Rs 5 crore and Rs 83,770 in cash yesterday.
The arrested person has been identified as Md Amzad Khan (47) of Lilong Chingjao.
Md Amzad Khan was smuggling the brown sugar in a four wheeler vehicle when he was intercepted near Kwakta Sericulture Center, said sources.
Sources said the operation that led to the arrest and seizure of the drug was carried out following a reliable input regarding the transportation of smuggled contraband items from Churachandpur to Lilong area.
Two teams of Bishnupur Commandos then intercepted the vehicle the accused was driving near Kwakta Sericulture Center.
On searching the vehicle, the commando personnel found 10 transparent plastic packets containing approximately 5.148 Kg of brown sugar concealed inside the left rear door of the car.
The personnel further recovered Rs 83,770 cash from his possession and also seized the car. A case under NDPS Act has been registered at Phougakchao Ikhai police station for further investigation.
