IMPHAL, Jul 11: The Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has urged the Government and authorities concerned to review the validity of OBC certificate and documents required to obtain it.
While an OBC (Other Backward Classes) certificate is said to be valid for one financial year, FESOK said it has come across instances where claims have been made that the validity of an OBC certificate is only 6 months, causing confusion among the people.
A shorter validity of the OBC certificate is causing great inconveniences. Applying for the certificate every 6 months is impractical and causes unnecessary hurdles to the people, especially students and job seekers, FESOK said.
It further urged the Government to reconsider the various documents required to obtain OBC, Income, Domicile and Birth certificates. The requirement of land patta is an issue facing many, it said. Unable to acquire new patta for "lack of computerised record" many are facing extreme difficulties in obtaining the certificate, it said. FESOK claimed Amin (land surveyor) and people in Revenue and Land Reform Sections in SDO/SDC offices are asking over Rs 20,000 for a computerised record of patta.
