IMPHAL, Jul 11: The Foothills Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) has unequivocally condemned the "barbaric and unprovoked attack" at Leimakhong  Chingmang and Kanto Sabal on July 11 where six houses belonging to Naga and Meitei families were deliberately torched.
In a statement, the FNCC said the attackers also looted and occupied Cornerstone Mission School and Hope International School, "targeting institutions dedicated to the education and future of our children."
The FNCC said it is shocked by the recent brutal killing of Dr Manu, founder and Principal of Hope International School.
While his family and the community are still grieving this irreparable loss, the perpetrators further desecrated his legacy by looting and vandalizing the school, causing damage worth crores of rupees. Such barbarity is an unforgivable assault on humanity, education and civilization itself, it added.
The FNCC said the brazen attack occurred in close proximity of the 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong and in the front of Central Armed Police Forces and the Punjab Regiment. "This raises serious questions over the role of the Government as the custodian of law. FNCC demands immediate identification, arrest and exemplary punishment of every individual involved in these crimes," it said.
There can be no justification for murdering civilians, burning homes, or attacking educational institutions. These are not acts of protest but criminal acts of terror intended to spread fear, destroy lives and destabilize society, FNCC said.
It urged the Government of Manipur, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and all security agencies to act decisively to restore law and order, and ensure the safety of all communities, and bring every perpetrator to justice without fear or favour.
"FNCC stands in unwavering solidarity with the affected families and reaffirms that lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, accountability and uncompromising rule of law," it said.
