Many join Congress in Heirok

THOUBAL, Jun 25: As many as 143 individuals from 47 families, including members of the BJP and other political parties, joined the Indian National Congress (INC) and extended their support to former Minister Moirangthem Okendro during a reception programme held at Bengi Public Community Hall today.
Organised by the Heirok Block Congress Committee (HBCC), the programme saw the new entrants being welcomed with the traditional presentation of lengyan by former Minister Moirangthem Okendro, HBCC president Thokchom Ranjan and other party leaders.
The function was attended by Moirangthem Okendro, his wife Moirangthem Ongbi Sarita, HBCC president Thokchom Ranjan, Thoubal Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha Kh Shoba, and several office-bearers and key members of the HBCC.
Addressing the gathering, Okendro urged like-minded people of Heirok Assembly Constituency to unite and stand together for the motherland. Referring to the ongoing conflict in Manipur, he expressed concern over the prevailing situation and said the future of the State remained uncertain.
He also criticised the State and Central Governments, alleging a lack of sincerity in addressing the crisis. Claiming that elected representatives of the ruling dispensation had failed to provide effective leadership during the conflict, he alleged that the State was witnessing a breakdown of law and order.
