IMPHAL, Jul 12: Deplorable condition of NH-37 has forced drivers to cease transport operation between Imphal-Khongsang railway station.
No empty trucks will leave Imphal for Khangsang from tomorrow, said sources.
Mostly cement, fertilizer and FCI rice, brought in via train are transported from Khongsang to Imphal.
At least 70 to 90 trucks leave Imphal daily for Khongsang except when there is no security escort.
With the trucks refusing to ply the route, the State may soon face shortage of goods including cement and rice, said the sources.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, a driver said the road leading to Khongsang railway station is in a deplorable condition.
With water knee deep, the road is not visible at all, and vehicles get stuck all the time, said the driver. Drivers meanwhile said if the Government and authorities concerned are not going to repair the road, then the goods train service should be halted.
