IMPHAL, Jul 12 : People's Democratic Alliance (PDA), which does not follow a high-command culture, will play a key role in defeating the BJP in the 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections and in installing a new Government, said party president Yumnam Joykumar.
He made the statement while launching the election campaign of PDA candidate of Khurai AC Laitonjam Jayananda, today.
Addressing the function held at Khurai Konsam Leikai as chief guest, Joykumar, a former Deputy Chief Minister, said he left the NPP, a coalition partner of the BJP Government, with the belief that saving Manipur was more important. He claimed that the fate of Manipur will hang in balance if BJP remains in power.
The Central Government has reduced the Manipur Government to a mere nominal authority, he further claimed.
Instead of resolving the crisis that has persisted since May 3, 2023, the situation has worsened, with conflicts now emerging between the Kuki and Naga communities under the watch of the BJP Government, he charged.
Appealing to the people to support the PDA, a regional party, Joykumar claimed that only Jayananda could defeat L Susindro, the BJP MLA from Khurai. He sought the support of the Meitei, Naga and Meitei Pangal communities to safeguard the indigenous people of Manipur and also protect the State. Jayananda, on the other hand, stated that PDA is a regional political party which was formed in 2005 and recognised by the Election Commission. The function was attended by office bearers of PDA and the supporters of the party.
