SSI alumnus promoted to Brigadier

IMPHAL, Jul 13: Colonel Nasim Akhtar, Sena Medal, an alumnus of Sainik School Imphal, has been approved for promotion to the rank of Brigadier in the Indian Army, becoming the fifth alumnus of the school to attain this distinguished milestone.
Born in Tamkuhi Road near Gorakhpur, Uttar Pra-desh, he joined Sainik School Imphal in 1987 after completing his early schooling. He entered the National Defence Academy in 1995 and was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) in 1999.
Currently serving at the Headquarters, Directorate General Border Roads (DGBR), New Delhi, Colonel Akhtar has now been approved for promotion to the rank of Brigadier, said the Sainik School Imphal Alumni Association (SSIAA) in a statement. Over an illustrious career spanning more than two decades, he has served in the desert sector, high-altitude areas, Headquarters Andaman & Nicobar Command, and completed a two-year tenure in the Kingdom of Bhutan.
Following the successful command of a battalion in both the Western and Eastern sectors, he attended the prestigious Higher Defence Management Course at Secunderabad.
