IMPHAL, Jul 14 : A sit-in protest was staged today at Leishangkhong Keithel Macha, demanding the immediate cessation of the alleged proxy war in Manipur.
The demonstration was organised by the Mayai Lambi Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (MLAMPAL), Lei-shangkhong Kabui Women's Association (LKWA), and the Yumnam Huidrom and Thiyam Leishangkhong Meira Paibi units under the aegis of the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMA- WOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM).
The protesters urged the GoI to immediately stop the alleged acts of terrorism carried out by mercenary groups in the State.
Claiming that the Government has completely failed to safeguard the lives and properties of the people, the protesters further alleged that the GoI has been using Kuki armed groups to create enmity among the communities of the State.
They also claimed that the Government has granted impunity to Kuki armed groups.
Moreover, the demonstrators alleged that the GoI has been pursuing divisive politics, while calling for greater unity among the indigenous communities of the State.
They further charged that the Government remained silent when civilians were abducted right under the nose of Central security forces and later killed, and also when foreigners launched cross-border attacks in the State.
Withdraw the Central forces who could not protect the civilians, the protesters urged.
