IMPHAL, Jul 14 : State commandos and personnel of CoBRA carried out a search operation at the residences of former village volunteers at Nongshum and Uyumpok under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district today.
During the operation, the security forces arrested an individual aged around 44 from Uyumpok Mayai Leikai for questioning.
According to police, the arrested individual has been identified as Sanasam Ibocha @ Abocha Singh and from his residence one AK-56 rifle, one .32 pistol and  27 rounds of AK-56 live ammunition were recovered.
The meira paibi attempted to prevent the individual from being taken away by the security personnel by blocking the road, but their effort was unsuccessful.
Ereibak Kanba Lup (EKAL) women wing has condemned the conduct of the security personnel.
Speaking to the media, EKAL women wing convenor Heikrujam Malemkhombi Leima said that residents of Uyumpok and Nongshum had long been targeted by Kuki militants, even before the outbreak of the ongoing crisis.
Saying that many local youths volunteered to safeguard their villages following the violent campaign by Kuki groups, she added that the Khamenlok massacre took place after an attempt by Kuki groups to occupy Nongshum.
She said that the villagers had felt a sense of security after MPA cadres of the Pambei-led UNLF were stationed in the area, but they had been relocated recently.
She added that the Government’s alleged crackdown on former village volunteers after the relocation of MPA cadres is unacceptable and accused the Government of siding with Kuki groups and allowing Kuki armed groups to cultivate poppy in the Khamenlok area freely.
Stating that security forces had failed to protect residential areas at Kanto Sabal, where Kukis burnt down six houses a few days ago, she expressed doubts that the State and Central forces would be able to protect civilians at Nongshum.
