DIMAPUR, Jul 14 : The NSCN (IM) has vowed to make every effort to identify those involved in the IED blast in Nagaland that left one Assam Rifles trooper dead and four others injured.
Condemning the incident as "cowardly terrorist act", the outfit said that such indiscriminate acts of violence serve no legitimate purpose other than to spread fear, create chaos, and undermine the peaceful atmosphere that the people have long desired and worked to preserve.
It said the use of activated explosive devices and anti-personnel mines is contrary to humanitarian prin- ciples and places innocent lives at unacceptable risk.
"As a signatory to the Geneva Call Deed of Commitment banning anti-personnel mines, the NSCN (IM) said it remains firmly committed to upholding its obligations under that commitment and rejects the use of such weapons.
The Naga outfit reiterated that it "remains under the Indo-Naga ceasefire agreement and shall continue to honour both the letter and spirit of the ceasefire ground rules."
This "reprehensible act" is an attack not only on the immediate victims but also on the fragile peace and stability of the region, it added. "At a time when the people aspire to live in security and normalcy, those responsible have chosen the path of terror and provocation. Such actions are designed to sow mistrust, fuel instability, and derail efforts towards peace", the NSCN (IM) said. The NSCN (IM) said it will make every effort, through all available and appropriate means, to ascertain the truth behind the incident and identify those responsible.
Those who seek to exploit violence to destabilise society must be exposed and held accountable, it added.
The outfit called upon all concerned to remain calm, refrain from speculation, and cooperate in ensuring that the facts are established.
It also said that the pursuit of truth and justice is essential to preventing those responsible from achieving their objective of disrupting peace.
