IMPHAL, Jul 16: A Congress delegation led by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Keisham Meghachandra today visited Kanto Sabal and Leimakhong Chingmang in Sekmai Assembly Constituency, where six houses belonging to Meitei families were recently set on fire by Kuki miscreants.
During the visit, the delegation also met the General Officer Commanding of the 57 Mountain Brigade, Major General Subhankar Basu and enquired about the recent arson at Kanto Sabal and the prevailing situation  in the area.
They urged the GOC to take up adequate security measures in the area.
Meghachandra was accompanied by former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta, former MLA Y Surchandra, and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Scheduled Caste Department Chairman Ayangbam Oken, among others.
Speaking to the media, Meghachandra strongly condemned the arson, noting that it occurred in close proximity to an Indian Army check post at Leimakhong.
He alleged that the Government had completely failed to protect the lives and properties of the people.
After interacting with residents of Kanto Sabal, the Congress leader claimed that the recent arson attack reflected the failure of both the BJP-led Central and State Governments, as the incident occurred near an Army camp.
There were security lapses, he said, referring to the arson incident.
Stating that the people of Manipur want peace, Meghachandra questioned why the Government has been unable to resolve the ongoing crisis.
He further expressed suspicion that the Government wants to keep Manipur in a constant state of unrest.
What the people need is not a mere visit by the Chief Minister, Ministers or MLAs after incidents of arson or violence, but concrete measures to ensure the safety of lives and property, he said.
Urging the Government to strengthen security arrangements at Leimakhong Ching- mang, Meghachandra alleged that incidents of violence recur whenever the Government claims that normalcy has returned to the State.
Further stating that the Government has failed to formulate a clear roadmap for resolving the ongoing crisis, Meghachandra said the future of the people remains uncertain in view of the prevailing situation.
Questioning the relevance of an elected Government if people continue to suffer for more than three years, he urged the Government to take moral responsibility and do the needful.
He also alleged that the ruling party MLAs have been unable to uphold their own dignity.
If the Government cannot protect the lives and property of the people, it should resign, Meghachandra asserted.
What the people seek is not compensation but the assurance that they can live in their own homes and villages without fear or insecurity, he added.
Later, the delegation visited the relief camps at Kanto Sabal and Khurkhul .
