IMPHAL, Jul 16 : The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has condemned the burning of residential houses belonging to Meitei families at Kanto Sabal on July 11, 2026 by Kuki mobs during a peaceful rally organised under the banner of the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee (LAPC).
In a statement, TIM said there can be no justification for such an act of arson, which appears to have been intended to escalate ethnic tensions and violence in the State.
TIM also said it welcomes the Government of Manipur's condemnation of the incident and the arrests made in connection with the case.
It called upon all Thadou residents living in the 27 villages under the "LAPC" in the vicinity of the Leimakhong Military Station (LMS), Kangpokpi District, to clearly disassociate themselves from Kuki organisations, including the LAPC, register at www.thadou.com, and contact TIM should they require any assistance.
Members of the Thadou community should identify themselves solely as Thadou, and not as Kuki, and dissociate themselves from the Kuki label, organisations, and affiliations in all respects to avoid misidentification, it added.
TIM also said that innocent Thadou residents must not be harassed, threatened, or held responsible due to misidentification as Kuki.
TIM also encouraged every Thadou village to prominently display a "Thadou Village" signboard at its entrance.
Furthermore, TIM said that the Thadou and Naga communities should work towards a formal community-level understanding to strengthen mutual trust, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence.
TIM urged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to conduct a prompt, impartial, and transparent investigation into the Kanto Sabal arson attack and ensure that all those responsible are prosecuted in accordance with law, protect Thadou individuals and villages from coercion, intimidation, harassment, and violence by Kuki militant groups - including both SoO (Suspension of Operations) and non-SoO groups and by organisations allegedly acting as their fronts or proxies.
Additionally, TIM urged the Government to strengthen security around the Leimakhong Military Station and ensure that no unlawful armed Kuki group or criminal network exercises influence or control over civilian populations, thereby restoring lasting peace, public confidence, and the rule of law.
