Senapati, Jul 16 : The Naga People's Organization (NPO) has expressed concern over the recent security operations in the Makuilongdi area of Senapati district and reiterated its commitment to seeking justice for the six Naga civilians killed by Kuki groups.
Addressing the media, NPO law secretary Ng Chunthan spoke on the July 14 mob incident in Senapati, the slow progress in the investigation of the killing of the six Naga civilians, growing public resentment towards security forces and the need for restraint among the public.
Referring to the mob incident, Chunthan said it was triggered after reports of a military operation at Makuilongdi went viral on social media.
On the investigation into the killing of the six Naga civilians, he said dissatisfaction was not limited to Naga civil society organisations but was shared by the entire Naga community.
He alleged that there had been little progress in securing justice for the victims' families and described the killings as "one of the rarest of rare cases."
Chunthan further claimed that the victims' bodies had been mutilated.
On the growing resentment towards security forces, Chunthan said many Nagas believe that launching military operations in Naga-inhabited areas at a time when the families of the six Naga victims are still awaiting justice is unjustified.
He added that the bodies of the six civilians are still lying in a morgue.
Appealing to the Naga people, particularly the youth, Chunthan urged them to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could lead to a deterioration of the law and order situation.
At the same time, he asserted that the Naga civil society organisations would continue to stand united in their fight to secure justice for the six Naga civilians.
