IMPHAL, Jul 17 : Condemning the failure of the Government to restore normalcy in Manipur, a sit-in protest was staged today at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai.
The protest demonstration was organised by Poumai Colony Development Authority, Poumai Colony Meira Paibi, Kairang Makha Leikai Meira Paibi, Chingmeirong Kabui Women's Society etc under the aegis of the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM).
During the protest, the demonstrators alleged that the Government of India (GoI) has been turning a blind eye to serious issues affecting Manipur, including restrictions on movement along highways, abductions, killings, the inability of people to cultivate their paddy fields and the failure of security forces to protect people and their properties.
Stating that the crisis in Manipur which began over three years back has worsened rather than improved, they claimed that the GoI has been pursuing divisive policies in the State.
Considering these factors, the protesters called for unity among the indigenous people.
